Accessibility

We want our services to be usable by people with disabilities, and we have put real time and money into making this website easier to use. Everyone has the right to live with dignity, equality, comfort and independence, and that includes how they use a website.

What we have done

Below is what we have put in place to bring this site in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.0.

UserWay accessibility widget

UserWay helps this site meet WCAG 2.0, ATAG 2.0, ADA and Section 508 requirements. The menu is on every page. Click the accessibility icon on the middle left of the screen to open it, and give it a moment to finish loading.

Divi Accessibility plugin

This WordPress plugin improves the underlying site framework against WCAG 2.0 guidelines. It:

• adds the appropriate ARIA attributes
• improves keyboard navigation through menus and submenus
• fixes missing and incorrectly assigned labels
• makes elements such as toggles and accordions focusable and keyboard interactive
• adds a visible outline to focusable elements for keyboard-only navigation
• corrects screen reader classes used incorrectly by the theme
• adds a “Skip to Content” link
• hides decorative icons from screen readers so they do not interrupt reading
• fixes duplicate menu IDs

Keyboard navigation

We wrote custom code so the mobile menu can be navigated with a keyboard.

Image descriptions

Images on this site carry alt text. Purely decorative images are deliberately left without it, so screen readers are not slowed down by descriptions that carry no meaning.

Colour contrast

Where we could, we adjusted colours and removed or changed background images to meet the WCAG 2.0 contrast ratio of 4.5:1. The contrast tool inside the UserWay widget offers further viewing options.

Where we fall short

We will keep working on this. Accessibility is not a box to tick once.

That said, some content on this site may not yet meet the strictest accessibility standards. Sometimes there is no accessible solution available. Sometimes it is an editing mistake, a software update outside our control, a third-party tool such as Google Maps, or simply something we missed.
